NEWS ARCHIVE 5

December 19th 2005

Check out Vixen's 'Happy Holidays' message.
Of particular interest is that they say of the new album Live & Learn, "We will be getting it out to you early in the New Year!" Also, in May of 2006 Sony/BMG will be releasing a LIVE CD recorded at the Sweden Rock Festival this year, and Vixen say "we hope to also bring you a DVD of those performances in 2006."

Well, there isn't a holiday message from Roxy but she can be seen in festive attire here, haha!

November 19th 2005

A round-up of news :
A new interview with Maxine can be found at Metal Maidens. In it Maxine says she is concentrating on getting a deal and writing and recording her second solo album, for release some time in 2006.

Share now has a video blog! You can watch the first 3 episodes at Rock n Roll TV. Also Share and Bam are starting back working on Bubble again, having played a gig at the Independent Music Video Festival. Next they will be making their fourth album.

The auction for Jan's guitar ended at the price of $2100, unfortunately the winning bidder backed out and failed to make payment.
Nov 21st : The guitar has now been relisted - see here.

Details on the Sweden Rock DVD can be seen here. (If it comes up in Swedish go to the swedenrock.com page and follow the relevant links for the English version!) There is only the one Vixen song - Edge of a Broken Heart - on the DVD, hopefully the band will be able to release their own DVD or live CD from the festival at some stage.

Vixen unfortunately did not play at the Baltimore Mariner Arena show on Nov 5. This seems to bring to an end their touring for this year, therefore I have added all 2005 dates that they did play to the tour dates archive.

Ebay auction - Jan's guitar!
Jan Kuehnemund's 1985 J.B. Player acoustic/electric guitar is up for auction on ebay. This guitar was played on "MTV Unplugged" in August 1990 (it was actually the guitar played by Janet on that show). Several bonuses are included with the auction - a guitar strap, Vixen/Jan guitar picks, an autographed 8 x 10, a t-shirt from the 2001 "Voices of Metal" tour and a framed "Certificate of Authenticity". Go here to check it out.

October 3rd 2005

Just a quick note to say there is a one-off Vixen show at the 1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore : Baltimore's Rockfest 2005 featuring Skid Row, Quiet Riot, Vixen, Never Never and Slaughter, Saturday, November 5.
And the new album Live and Learn is close to being completed ... it's in the final recording stages, with each track being mixed as it is completed.

September 12th 2005

Check out a small site redesign to Roxy's page, with pics from a new photoshoot on the front and menupages. Look also for Mons Venus news shortly, as the band are currently recording a demo.

All current Vixen tour dates (including Sept 23 Elko, NV, Oct 29 Robinson, IL & Oct 31 Mount Clemens, MI ) seem to be cancelled/postponed - this should give the band time to work on completing the forthcoming album.

September 5th 2005

The new issue (October 2005) of Guitar World has a short feature on Vixen :

June 12th 2005

A video of Edge of a Broken Heart from the Mean Fiddler show can be viewed here.
I'm told the Sweden Rock appearance was a great success, with Vixen playing to a crowd of 15,000.  A couple of photos from the event have been posted here. (forward to nos 20 & 21)

Setlist for the June 8th show at the Kingswood Tavern in Nuneaton :

Rev It Up
Streets in Paradise
Live and Learn
How Much Love
Love Made Me
Anyway
Love is a Killer
Pacifist
Cryin'
Rock Me (inc. We Will Rock You)
Love Song

Pictures : on live pix page

Videos (no sound) :
Jenna & Jan
And here you can try to guess which solo Jan is playing ;-)
Solo 1  ;  Solo 2  ;  Solo 3

Notes : despite poor promotion and a relatively low turnout, the Nuneaton show was very enjoyable :-) I was very happy to see Cruisin' added to the setlist, as well as Bad Reputation substituted for the encore. The new songs impress even more 2nd time around as you get to know them and the new members likewise - even if we may wish for the original line-up Jan has certainly found some very talented and capable replacements. As this was the last show of the UK tour & the venue was not in a hurry to chuck the bands out, the girls stayed for quite a long time after the show to talk and sign things. They said that they hope to return in the fall for more shows after the album is released (UK and hopefully elsewhere in Europe). The members of Girlschool were also present to share a celebratory drink at the end of the evening. Next (after Sweden & Denmark) is a return to the States for touring, with the new album being finished off in the gaps between shows!

June 4th 2005

Some pictures from the June 3rd show can be seen on the live pix page :

The aftershow pic is l-r : Chris the auxiliary keyboardist/guitarist, Jan, Lynn, Jürgen who came from Germany for the show, and Jenna. The pic with me in from after the show is unfortunately not suitable for publication! My thanks to the girls for a great night, and cheers to Andy & Jogi (Jürgen) from Germany, and Rita & Toine from Metal Maidens magazine in Holland.

And here is a short video clip of Jan from the show (but with no sound!)

June 3rd 2005

Pictures from the June 1st gig at The Limelight Club, Crewe have been posted here.
Also there were reports that the Bristol Bierkeller show on the 2nd was off due to problems with the promoter - however as it turned out Vixen did play, and were the only band to do so.

I attended the June 3rd London show at the Mean Fiddler, possibly pics to follow if any of them turned out ok!  For now here is the setlist as well as I can remember it :

Rev It Up
Streets in Paradise
Live and Learn (new song)
How Much Love
Love Made Me
Anyway (new song)
Love is a Killer
Pacifist (new song)
Cryin'
Rock Me (including part of Queen's We Will Rock You)
You Wish (new song)
Love Song (new song)
Edge of a Broken Heart

Encore :
Suffragette City (David Bowie cover)

Notes : Jenna did tell me the names of the new songs afterwards, but I don't quite remember them all/am not sure of the exact order. The song "Live and Learn" is the title track of the new album, which is due out in August.

Thanks to Chip for new song titles!

May 10th 2005

Metal Sludge's 20 Questions with Maxine Petrucci have been posted. An entertaining read and the Titania CD is great, really heavy and intense guitar work, so make sure you buy it so Maxine can finally make some money from her music as she got nothing from Jet Records during the Madam X days!

From Roxy's page :
HERE'S THE LATEST - Posted March 9, 2005
Roxy has teamed up with primo guitarist Brian Young from the David Lee Roth band and talented vocalist Lenita Erickson who toured with Bruce Kulick, she can best be described as Rod Stewart with a stick of dynamite up his ass. Summer show dates are being scheduled. Lenita is in negotiations with a major television network to air her zany and unscripted show G.A.M.E. covering the week in sports and documenting behind the scenes with celebrity athletes and musical appearances from the band.

Also, you can read "10 questions with Roxy" on The Rock Zone and see the Bubble Japan tour diary/photo blog here.

A Drawing Down the Moon press release :

Vixen guitarist Jan Kuehnemund returns with new all-female rock band

      She's back.
Guitarist Jan Kuehnemund was an MTV and rock-radio staple back in the late '80s with the female pop-metal group Vixen, best known for the chart smash "Edge of a Broken Heart". In addition to participating in a reunion of her old band, Kuehnemund has formed Drawing Down the Moon (www.drawingdownthemoon.net), an alternative group that ventures into musical territory one wouldn't expect from a hard-rock veteran. From the neo-psychedelic touches of "Dream" to the shimmering riffs of "Blue", Kuehnemund is exploring her own versatility, crafting pop music that can stand on its own outside of her work with Vixen. Stunning two-and-three part female harmonies soar atop melodic pop/rock that reveal the influences of blues, '80s New Wave, country, and of course, hard rock.
Comprised of Kuehnemund, vocalist/percussionist Stacy Robin of Imaginary Friends, vocalist Jackie Paulson, drummer/bassist/keyboardist Donna Eveland, and guitarist/vocalist Donna Rawlins, Drawing Down the Moon have just released their debut album Angel in My Dream on Oceanic Records. The 12-track CD is a hook-driven collection of stylish, sultry, and emotionally uplifting rock & roll where no song can be compared to each other; every track has its own distinct identity.
Drawing Down the Moon's new album, Angel in My Dream, is currently available at www.amazon.com and www.cdbaby.com.

January 30th 2005

Check out a recent interview with Roxy at www.rafabasa.com (in Spanish!)

January 15th 2005

Maxine & Roxy's brother Paul Petrucci is playing bass also on one track on the Titania CD, and you can check out some more Madam X photos on Maxine's page.

This may be a little bit of old info, but the Vixen bass player Lynn Louise Lowrey's page says "summer tour being planned for 2005 along with the ALL NEW CD available Spring 2005". Also on the page are photos from the Las Vegas Sept 2001 show, and a new pic from a party held recently in LA for the Vixen re-releases and the DDtM CD release. See also here.
