NEWS ARCHIVE 6

December 17th 2006

Somewhat late posting this after switching over to a new computer, but just a quick note to say that the official Vixen website has a new design, including new backgrounds and photos.  Check it out at www.vixenrock.com

Higher quality backstage pictures from the Roktopuss Halloween show have been posted in Roxy's scrapbook.

December 7th 2006

Some more Roktopuss news : a couple of videos from the show and pictures from backstage have now been posted.  And some of my pictures have also been used in the Roktopuss photo gallery and on Roxy's page ;-)
The band will be going to Nashville to record with Michael Wagener from Dec 10th, and are looking to play more shows in the new year.

November 4th 2006

A little report on the first ever Roktopuss show!
The whole thing was running late so Roktopuss being the last band, playing after 'headliners' LA Guns, eventually went on stage around 1.00 a.m.!  I managed to get the setlist after (and Lorraine's lyric sheets for the Vixen cover, haha) so here it is :

They played a Femme Fatale cover, Waiting for the Big One, and the Vixen cover was I Want You to Rock Me (or Rok Me ;-) ).  In addition to that were the 2 songs, Naked and Dog Bite, that have previously been posted on the internet, High which I realised after that I had heard and was from Lorraine's previous project Snowball, and what I assume were 2 new Roktopuss songs, Away and Desperate (not the Vixen song) which was an acoustic track played by only Lorraine and Jeff Young.  A great, energetic performance by everyone and Roxy certainly still hits her drums as hard as ever!
After the show the band came out to sign autographs and talk ... everyone seemed to think it went very well, especially for having to replace a bass player at short notice (E.J. Curse was unable to play the show so Lorraine's brother Rick Rael stepped in), and having only two days of rehearsals.  No definite news on further Roktopuss shows but hopefully more will follow soon, and I think plans to release an EP were mentioned.  Also look for Roxy's appearance on Maxine's next album, she is playing on a couple of tracks.
Here's a pic of me with Roxy :

Rounding up some Vixen news :
Unfortunately due to problems with the promoter the dates in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will not go ahead in December.  It is planned to reschedule them for early 2007.
Vixen is a finalist at the 6th Annual Independent Music Awards (2007 IMA's).  They are nominated in two categories, Best Song: Hard Rock/Metal - "I Try" and Best Album: Hard Rock/Metal - "Live & Learn".
And there is a new interview with Jenna at The Cover Zone.

October 11th 2006

New Vixen live dates have been posted for Europe in December.  These include several in Germany, one each in Austria, Switzerland & Spain, and three in Finland on the "Christmas is Heavy" tour with Yngwie Malmsteen & U.D.O.  See the tour dates page on the official Vixen site for full details.

I have added a few live photos from Spain to my live pix page.

October 9th 2006

On September 29th most of Vixen (Jan, Lynn, Kat & Chris) were at a pre-show party for the Rockzinante Excalibur Metal Festival.  I was lucky enough to be admitted to the restricted area where they were for a short time, and to meet them (again ;-) )  Here is a picture of my friend Eva giving the belt to Jan as alluded to in the previous news item :

The show itself was fantastic, the girls really enjoyed the extra room on stage to run around in, and got a great response from the Spanish crowd.  The set was a little shorter, maybe partly due to timing problems with the festival, from memory something like - Love Made Me, Anyway, Streets in Paradise, Live & Learn, How Much Love, Rock Me, Love is a Killer, Pacifist, Cryin', Rev It Up, You Wish, Cruisin', Edge of a Broken Heart.  Afterwards we located the access way to the backstage and begged the security guy there to get Vixen to come out, after a while they did - Jan, Lynn, and Jenna fresh from her trip to Italy :-)
I had a lot of problems with my camera during the show, but I'll post a few live shots soon.  Pics from after the show :

A clip of Cryin' from the festival can be seen here.

Release dates for Vixen's new album Live & Learn have been announced, so far they are :
Germany - Oct 27th 2006 ; UK - Nov 10th 2006 ; US - Jan 30th 2007 ; Japan/Australia - first week of Feb 2007

Also there will be some more Vixen live dates in Europe in December, including Germany, Switzerland, Finland and Spain.  The Finnish dates at least appear to be part of a tour with Yngwie Malmsteen and U.D.O.  More news soon!

September 30th 2006

Maxine has posted a new song on myspace, a cover of Black Sabbathīs Symptom of the Universe.  She has a new album almost completed, itīs in the mixing stages at the moment and Maxine is looking to get it released in early 2007.  She is very excited about it and feels itīs a big step up from the Titania CD.  And lastly, she is also putting a band together to play some shows.

Vixen made an appearance last night at the Excalibur metal pub in Madrid, where Jan was presented with a beautiful belt by a Spanish girl ;-)  How do I know?  Stay tuned ...

September 23rd 2006

From the Roktopuss myspace page, the line up of the band is now given :
In addition to Roxy & Lorraine it includes E.J. Curse on bass and Jeff Young (ex Megadeth) on guitar, replacing Brian Young!

A new interview with Jan (in Spanish) has been posted at rafabasa.com

September 10th 2006

Finally, Roktopuss have their first live date!  The band featuring Roxy Petrucci and Lorraine Lewis will play with L.A. Guns on Tuesday October 31st at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood.  Roktopuss t-shirts in red, black and white are also now available at www.myspace.com/roktopuss

August 17th 2006

Both of Vixen's new CDs, Live & Learn and Extended Versions, are now available to buy from the store on Vixen's website.  And speaking as someone who was lucky enough to get both CDs at the Camden Underworld show in London I can say that they're well worth it ;-)
Also check updates to the photo gallery and lyrics page.

Current Vixen press appearances include Classic Rock magazine and a review of the Underworld show in this week's Kerrang.

July 25th 2006

The myspace page for Jan is now official, view it at http://www.myspace.com/jankuehnemund
And to complete the line-up of Vixen members on myspace, here is Kat's page.

July 21st 2006

An extensive interview with Jenna has been posted on rockdetector.com

A clip of Cryin' live on June 23rd at the Whisky has been posted on YouTube.
Other videos on YouTube - an alternate version of the Edge of a Broken Heart video shot for Japan which I never knew existed!
And Cryin' from the MTV New Year's Eve show.

Note : the myspace page mentioned in the previous news item has been changed so that it now says it is a tribute page to Jan.  You can see it at http://www.myspace.com/jankuehnemund, but remember, this is not Jan!

July 19th 2006

From the official site, Vixen have signed with Demolition Records for the release of Live & Learn (it should be out some time in September).  The cover and tracklisting can be seen on the discography page, as can that for the Extended Versions album which is finally available to order!  See Tower Records.

Also, a notice about some myspace pages, two official, those for Jenna Sanz-Agero and Lynn Louise Lowrey
and one not!  The last is one that someone has made under the name of Jan Kuehnemund, however this is fraudulent and Jan has nothing to do with it, so avoid that page!

July 10th 2006

The week after Lorraine's interview, The Headbanger's Basement has posted an interview with Jan done during the last Vixen tour.  See segment 4, here.

Following the cancellation of the RagnaRock festival in Norway, Vixen's touring schedule has been updated.  The majority of the UK dates will go ahead as planned, some other European dates will be rescheduled and a couple of new festival dates have been added.  See the tour page for the latest information.

Could the Extended Versions (aka Live in Sweden) CD finally be about to be released??  There is an entry for it on cduniverse.com, check it out for the tracklisting .... backordered at the moment but as the last official release date given was July 11, perhaps it will be available to order soon.

July 2nd 2006

Also in this week's show a new track from Vixen, Give Me Away, is played at the beginning of segment 3.

June 26th 2006

From Vixen's myspace page :
"Extended Versions" live album on Sony BMG

Well at long last we have some updated information about the release of the live album (which was supposed to have been May 16).  We are now told that the album is being manufactured tomorrow, June 27th and will be in stores in two weeks - JULY 11th!!  We hope this is good information and we will keep you posted if it changes.  More news to come on the studio album, so keep checking back...

For those of you who were at the Whisky, we had a great time!  Thanks for your support.

And, before I get round to posting some live pics, here's one of Kat & Jan from after the Long Beach show ;-)

June 24th 2006

I've just got back from LA!  I saw Vixen in Long Beach on June 17th (not quite able to stay on for the Whisky show) and before that at the Tulsa, OK show on the 12th.  Many thanks to Bruce & Ilknur in Tulsa for the invite and their hospitality!  Both shows were fantastic, the girls were in fine form and it was great to meet them too!  Will post some pics and maybe videos as well over the next few days so look out for that.  Now, a round up of news from while I've been away ...

From blabbermouth.net :

Note, as far as I'm aware, House of Lords are only playing on the UK shows (the "Lords and Ladies" tour).  The live album is unfortunately still not out, despite having a mid May release date originally.  Boo to Sony/BMG!  I have no definite info on the live DVD release ... I guess they were still shooting the bonus material for that when I saw them on tour in Tulsa ;-)

A new interview with Jan can be read at rawandwild.com
Vixen were on the Chaos program on Indie 103.1 fm radio on Weds June 21st.  The show should be available to listen to in their archives soon.  Correction, only the playlist is given.
A gallery of pictures from the I-Rock in Detroit on June 8th can be viewed here.  And there are also some pictures from Chicago, June 10th on my live pictures page (thanks to Anita!)

May 25th 2006

From melodicrock.com :

VIXEN IN THE US:
"The Queens of Metal" Vixen return to the road, in support of their forthcoming new studio album Live & Learn, and their first ever live album. The live album was recorded last year, during their storming performance at the Sweden Rock Festival.
The band will be performing throughout the USA in June, and will then be returning to Europe for August. They will be joined in the US by Enuff Z'nuff, and in Europe by House of Lords.
The Live album, Extended Versions, is being released by Sony/BMG in the USA in May as part of their "Extended Versions" franchise, and Live & Learn will be released by Demolition Records later this year.

May 1st 2006

There is an interview with Roxy now up at glam-metal.com
Current plans for Roktopuss include finding a manager, playing some shows in LA and to keep writing and recording.

More Vixen dates have been announced, including the Rockzinante Excalibur Metal Festival in Madrid, Spain and the
Rio Grande Rock-n-Roar Bikefest at the Cohen stadium in El Paso, Texas.  More European tour dates should be announced shortly.

April 19th 2006

Roxy's project with Lorraine Lewis is now called Roktopuss!
They have a myspace page, check it out at www.myspace.com/roktopuss, including a couple of full songs, Naked and Dog Bite.

Vixen have added several US shows to their tour schedule.  Some of these are part of a package tour, with Vixen supported by Enuff Z'nuff and Delta 32, and some will be Vixen only, with a local support band.  See the events page.

And a special mention (it's my website so I'm allowed) for the show in Tulsa, OK at the Blank Slate on June 12th.  If you're able to go, please stop by and say hi to Ilknur and Bruce!  See also websites for the support band for that show, Down for Five, and the guitar player, Janna Jordan.

April 1st 2006

There was an interview with Jan broadcast on Electric Eye Radio yesterday (March 31).
The new live album was mentioned, I thought it was said to be coming out in April, however on the Vixen myspace page they say it's being released by Sony BMG on May 15th (US release only). Other subjects of discussion were touring plans and of course the new studio album. In addition to the few European shows already announced Vixen will be playing in the US during May/June. Some shows will be a package with Enuff Z'Nuff and Delta 32. A few confirmed dates were given out, with the tour kicking off with a hometown show for Jan in Minnesota.

The album was discussed track by track, and then played in its entirety after the interview.
pm Update : the order the tracks were played on the radio show is slightly different to the order on the new studio album which is likely to be :

Anyway
Live & Learn
I Try
Little Voice
Pacifist
Don't Want It Anymore
Love Song
Angry
I'm Sorry
You Wish
Suffragette City (Bowie cover)
Give Me Away

The cover and tracklisting for the Live In Sweden album has been posted on the discography section of the official Vixen website. The US tour dates which have been confirmed so far have also been posted here. And finally, there are 3 new photos in the Vixen and Friends section of the gallery. Recognise anyone? ;-)

March 20th 2006

As Vixen are already playing at the Rock & Blues Custom Show in England on July 28, I deduce that they will be at Rock of Ages on July 29 ;-)  For more info see here.

Maxine has posted a new track on her myspace site, 'Always Been', from the Japanese release of Titania.

March 16th 2006
